Your SSSTS certificate expires after 5 years – don’t let your site access and career progression stop because of an out-of-date qualification. Our intensive 1-day SSSTS Refresher course brings you up to speed with the latest health, safety and environmental legislation, ensuring you maintain your professional credentials without taking a week out of work.
Why Book This Course
This course is ideal for delegates who already hold a valid SSSTS certificate and need to renew it before expiry. It helps supervisors refresh their knowledge, stay compliant and continue demonstrating recognised health and safety awareness in their supervisory role.
Gain recognised health and safety knowledge and take a step towards working safely on site.
Support workforce compliance and help reduce the risk of accidents, delays and unsafe working practices.
Book training that is structured, recognised and suitable for new starters or site based teams.
Build a stronger safety culture and help delegates understand how their actions affect others on site.
The SSSTS Refresher course is specifically designed for construction supervisors and site managers who completed their original SSSTS training and need to renew their certification. This condensed one-day programme updates your knowledge of current legislation, reinforces best practice, and ensures you remain compliant with CITB requirements.
This refresher builds on your existing knowledge, focusing on updates and reinforcement of critical supervisory responsibilities. Throughout the day, you’ll revisit the fundamental principles of site supervision while exploring recent changes in construction health and safety legislation.
We’ll examine your role as a supervisor in creating and maintaining a positive health and safety culture on site. You’ll explore effective communication techniques for managing teams, understand how to lead by example, and review your legal responsibilities under current health and safety law. The course reinforces the importance of proper planning and organization in preventing accidents before they occur.
Construction legislation evolves constantly, and this refresher ensures you’re working to the latest requirements. You’ll review updates to the Construction Design and Management Regulations, understand changes to workplace health and safety law, and explore how recent case law and HSE guidance affects your daily responsibilities. We’ll discuss recent industry incidents and the lessons learned from prosecutions and enforcement actions.
You’ll revisit the principles of effective risk assessment, learning to identify hazards specific to your site activities and implement appropriate control measures. The course covers how to review and implement method statements effectively, ensuring your team works safely while maintaining productivity. We’ll explore common gaps in risk assessment processes and how to avoid them.
Understanding what to look for during site inspections is crucial to maintaining safety standards. You’ll refresh your knowledge of systematic inspection techniques, learn to identify substandard practices before they lead to accidents, and understand how to implement corrective actions effectively. The course covers documentation requirements and how to use inspection findings to drive continuous improvement.
When incidents occur, proper investigation and reporting are essential both legally and for preventing recurrence. You’ll review your responsibilities under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations), learn effective accident investigation techniques, and understand how to identify root causes rather than just immediate factors. We’ll cover the documentation you need to maintain and when to involve external authorities.
Modern construction supervision includes environmental responsibilities. The course updates you on current environmental legislation affecting construction sites, waste management requirements, pollution prevention, and the supervisor’s role in promoting sustainable construction practices.
Occupational Health Considerations
Beyond immediate safety hazards, you’ll explore the occupational health issues that can affect construction workers over time. This includes managing noise, vibration, dust and hazardous substances, understanding the long-term health implications of construction work, and implementing controls to protect your team’s wellbeing throughout their careers.
